About the Department

     History is an inspirable part of human life. History Department is one of the best departments in our college. History subject was taught in our college since from the foundation of the college in 1984. History was started as a special level for graduation from 1985.From the beginning History department has been motivating its students to study in innovative and different ways.

  • Promote studies in history, society and culture of Maharashtra in general and Maratha history in particular
  • Empower students to cope with the challenges of globalization by instilling in them a life-long passion for learning about the past. The knowledge about the interconnections between the global, national, regional and local history will equip the students to face the challenges with confidence.

  • Applying various historical methods and theories in local history.
  • Pursue research in history for better understanding.

Indian National Movement

(1857-1920)

Course Outcomes:

  1. Students will be able to criticize thematic issues in relation to Indian national movement.
  2. Students will get the adequate knowledge of Indian struggle of Independence.
  3. Students will be sensitized to the complex process through which modern politics was evolving in India.
  4. A study of the movement will enable them to appreciate the interconnected nature of the processes of modernity.

Course Outcomes:

  1. Students will learn the importance of the freedom movement and understand the relevance of the struggle that the freedom fighters went through.

Art and Architecture in Early India

Course Outcomes:

  1. Students will learn to understand the definition, aims and scope of Archaeology so as to understand its applications in interpreting the human past.
  2. They will be able to understand the nature of the archaeological record and the unique role of science in archaeology.

  2. They will understand the emergence of the Pottery, Terracotta figures, Ornaments, Town Planning, preparation of seals and coins.

History of the Marathas: (1630-1707)

Outcome:

  1. Student will develop the ability to analyse sources for Maratha History.
  2. Student will learn significance of regional history and political foundation of the region.
  3. It will enhance their perception of 17th century Maharashtra and India in context of Maratha history.

    1. Students will be able to analyze the Marathas policy of expansionism and its consequences.

Medieval India – Sultanate Period

Course outcome:

  1. Provides examples of sources used to study various periods in history.
  2. Relates key historical developments during medieval period occurring in one place with another.

  4. Estimate the foreign invasion and the achievement of rulers

Medieval India: Mughal Period

Course outcome:

  1. Draws comparisons between policies of different rulers.
  2. Understanding Role of Akbar in the consolidation of Mughal rule in India.
  3. Understand Aurangzeb’s conflict with Rajputas, Maratha and weakening Mughals age.
  4. Analyses factors which led to the emergence of new religious ideas and movements (bhakti and Sufi)

  2. It will increase the spirit of healthy Nationalism, Democratic Values and

Semester VI: India After Independence– (1947-1991)

  2. Student will learn significance of Regional History and Socio- religious reformism foundation of the region.
  3. It will enhance their perception of 19th Century Maharashtra.
